Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

What a year it has been!   Between the record snows of February curtailing almost ANY travel, even to the grocery store, to my first attempt at a ropes course and chasing fall foliage throughout New England, it was a great year. It saw us attempt (and successfully complete) our first ever 2 country trip (with plans to go back!!) and use our local beaches on an almost weekly basis. 2015 was pretty darn great. 2016, though, should be amazing….

Je suis reconnaissant, I am grateful

Je suis reconnaissant, I am grateful

On Friday  night, Eric and I watched and read the updates coming out of Paris with heavy hearts.  It is always horrible to hear these stories, and even more so when you have been to that place of destruction and hurt. Add to that the attacks in Lebanon and other events unfolding throughout the world and it can seem like there is no hope. But, as we know, you must hold out for that little sliver of hope to survive…

Last Gasp of Beauty

Last Gasp of Beauty

As Autumn breathes one last gasp here in New England, I’ve been chasing foliage every chance I have been able to find. Though it is past peak in many parts of Northern New England, Central Massachusetts was exploding with color this last week. Taking advice from my cousin, Joe, I wandered off to the Quabbin Reservoir to see if I could find anything worthwhile. I was pleasantly surprised by not only the beauty of Boston’s water supply (more on that…

The World of the Underground

The World of the Underground

One of the weirdest places that we found ourselves wandering through in Paris were the Catacombs. While waiting in line for 2 1/2 hours was horrible, walking among some of the 6 million bodies made us forget that. For only 10 Euros, it was totally worth the cost, but you might want to go later in the day if you don’t want to wait in line. Bring some cards, water, and a good book to pass the time while waiting…

Storming the Crowds…

Storming the Crowds…

We’re back from Europe, and it’s time for us to decompress and think about what we have seen and done during the last week. To be as timely as possible, we’ll discuss the Bastille Day fireworks we watched in Paris, but we will post about other events from our European trip. Fireworks seem ubiquitous during the American summer. Beginning around Independence Day, almost everyone watches those colorful explosions twinkle in the night sky, usually ending in a loud, intense finale….

And we’re back…

And we’re back…

After 50 miles of walking 9 gigs of photos 2 countries many questionable bathrooms 7 modes of travel later… we are back from our whirlwind trip to London and Paris. I think I took over 300 photos of the Bastille Day fireworks in just 30 minutes. Amazing. Look for more posts soon!

Map Mondays

Map Mondays

Today’s map is brought to us by the Norman B. Leventhal Map Collection at the Boston Public Library. I’m very excited that next month I will be getting a special tour of the facilities and up close with some of the gems that they have in their collection. It is amazing to look at maps like the one below and realize that in the 15th century, they had a better understanding of the geography of the world than some 9th…

The Traveling Maps…

The Traveling Maps…

Lately, I’ve been feeling rather stuck. I’m not sure if it is the massive snow piles that just won’t go away, the monotony of my job during the winter where a lot of things are closed, or something else.  This has been an incredibly difficult winter. Days like this make me yearn for last August and our trip to Hawaii…it was incredibly strange and fun. Where else can you take a photo with a wooden statue of Fidel Castro or…
